Olivia Munn Gives Update on Her Breast Cancer Journey

Olivia Munn is speaking candidly about how she’s doing amid her breast cancer journey.

“I have been wanting to answer everyone’s questions about my breast cancer journey for quite a bit of time now,” Munn, 46, said in an Instagram video. “So this is going to be my first in my series. I’ve just been waiting for like, ‘When’s the right time?’ like, ‘When do I not look exhausted?’”

Munn received her breast cancer diagnosis in 2023, but opted to keep her journey private until the following year.

“This is healing for me too because I know that just simply talking about my breast cancer journey is going to be helpful for someone out there,” she said. “Because every time I felt lost in the beginning of my journey, I would look online and I would see another woman talking about it, and it gave me just a little bit more hope that things would be OK.”

Lumeimages/MEGA Olivia Munn shared her breast cancer timeline in an effort to help others going through a similar experience. “I’ve gotten a lot of questions about this and I’ve wanted to make this video for those asking for a while but I’ve been filming, finishing filming, running after a toddler and starting a new medication,” […]

Munn shared that the question she gets asked the most is how she’s doing today, adding that she’s “doing really good” right now.

“Now I think most people who are going through any type of cancer can tell you that every day is different,” Munn explained. “Sometimes you feel like you’re really on an upswing and then there are other times when you’re like, ‘Oh my gosh, this is so difficult. How is this still so hard?’”

While juggling her health, Munn noted that she’s raising her two children with husband John Mulaney, is filming and traveling with the comedian as he’s working. (Munn and Mulaney, 43, are parents to son Malcolm, 4, and daughter Mei, 22 months. The couple welcomed their daughter via gestational surrogate.)

“When it comes to the medical side, I went into a surgical menopause — which I will talk about in another video — and that means I went from not being menopausal or perimenopausal to just instant menopause,” she explained. “And not only that, but I’m on another medication called an aromatase inhibitor that shuts down testosterone production that turns into estrogen in my body. Those medications are very difficult.”

Olivia Munn is getting candid about her health struggles after being diagnosed with breast cancer last year. “Having a little baby at home made everything much more terrifying. It makes you realize, cancer does not care who you are,” Munn, 43, shared in her People cover story published on Wednesday, April 17, referencing 2-year-old son, […]

She continued, “It’s the stuff we have to do after the big hurdles that are kind of like, there’s big hurdles and there’s like long hurdles. And I’m in the long hurdle right now.”

Munn shared that she “can’t wait” to continue her video series, noting that she’s taken “a lot of pressure” off of herself by posting the initial one and promised to answer any questions in the future.

“Welcome to the worst club with the best members,” she captioned the post. “I heard that after I was diagnosed with breast cancer and it turned out to be true. The sisterhood I’ve found of women who have battled/are currently battling the same fight are the most incredible, generous, supportive people I’ve ever met. I’ve spoken a lot publicly about every step I’ve taken on this path and I still get lots of questions. I hope making this series to live on my page will help anyone going through this and also anyone who knows someone going through this. 🤍🩷.”
