Vin Diesel’s sci-fi action sequel The Chronicles of Riddick is leaving Netflix soon. Though the actor is widely known for playing Dominic Toretto in the Fast and Furious franchise, his Riddick character remains another fan-favorite.
The Chronicles of Riddick is leaving Netflix
According to What’s on Netflix, The Chronicles of Riddick leaves Netflix on September 1, 2026. David Twohy wrote and directed the science fiction movie, and it was released in June 2004.
The movie is the second cinematic installment in the Riddick franchise. It follows on from the original movie Pitch Black, which introduces Diesel’s infamous outlaw character Richard B. Riddick. Diesel also served as one of the film’s producers alongside Tom Engelman and Scott Kroopf.
The science-fiction sequel sees Diesel’s Riddick in a much more sprawling and epic story than Pitch Black. In the sequel, the character must face off against a dangerous army of world conquerors and features several recognizable names in the cast alongside Diesel. Colm Feore plays the powerful Lord Marshal, and Karl Urban plays Commander Vaako. The movie also features Alexa Davalos, Thandiwe Newton, and Judi Dench, among others.
The Chronicles of Riddick earned over 115 million at the global box office. Critics on Rotten Tomatoes gave the film a score of 29%. However, the movie’s audience score sits much higher at 65%. In a positive review for The Washington Post, critic Ann Hornaday wrote, “The Chronicles of Riddick doesn’t hark back merely to the classic horror or science fiction canon but to nearly every single cinematic genre in the book, from westerns to film noir to sword-and-sandal epics.”
The film was followed by another sequel in 2013, simply titled Riddick, which sees the character return to the simpler story roots of the original Pitch Black film, which focused on survival elements. The film was also written and directed by Twohy.
