Penélope Cruz’s New Sex Comedy Is Already a Smashing Hit on Digital Streaming

Penélope Cruz has another reason to celebrate as her new sex comedy makes a quick digital splash. The adult comedy has secured a rare place on iTunes’ Top Movie Downloads chart, giving Olivia Wilde’s latest film a fresh jolt after its theatrical run. The movie arrived digitally Tuesday, August 11, and has quickly found an audience at home.

The Invite is trending high on digital streaming charts after recent release

As per Pop Vortex, The Invite is No 1 on iTunes Top Movies list, beating titles like Minions & Monsters, Michael, Jackass: Best and Last, Obsession (2026), Disclosure Day, and more. The Invite puts a struggling marriage under a microscope when Joe and Angela invite their mysterious upstairs neighbors over for dinner.

Seth Rogen plays Joe, while Wilde portrays Angela, with Cruz and Edward Norton completing the central quartet as Piña and Hawk. Their seemingly innocent evening gradually becomes a chaotic mix of secrets, sexual tension and uncomfortable revelations.

Wilde directed the R-rated comedy, working from a screenplay by Will McCormack and Rashida Jones, with Cesc Gay credited for the story. A24 distributed the movie, which received its wide theatrical release on July 10. The film also serves as an English-language remake of the Spanish movie The People Upstairs, bringing the relationship comedy into a new setting.

The theatrical numbers tell a more modest story. The Invite has earned about $45 million worldwide against an estimated $20 million budget, according to available box-office data. That makes its cinema run respectable but hardly a runaway blockbuster, which makes its digital No. 1 position especially useful for the movie.

Reviews, meanwhile, have given the film plenty to work with. The Invite holds a strong 97% critics score and an 89% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, while IMDb users currently rate it 7.9/10. Netizens have praised the sharp comedy, ensemble chemistry, and the way the movie turns an awkward dinner into relationship chaos.
