Alanis Morissette Sues Ex-Tour Manager With Extortion, Fraud Claims

Alanis Morissette has sued her ex-tour manager, accusing the person of blackmailing her with threats of trumping up drug trafficking charges unless the singer-songwriter signed a 15-year contract.

In a lawsuit filed in a California federal court Tuesday, Morissette lobbed claims of extortion, fraud, and negligent misrepresentation against her 2025 European tour manager Keren Urinov, calling her “a disgruntled former tour manager.”

“Morissette brings this lawsuit reluctantly,” the complaint said. “But Morissette will not agree to work with an incompetent blackmailer for the next fifteen years or pay her a ransom under the gun.”

The lawsuit alleges that British airport authorities arrested Urinov in 2025 as Morissette and crew were flying from the U.K. to Spain for a concert. After reconnecting, Urinov told Morissette that the British authorities flagged a bag that contained marijuana, which she carried with an Israeli medical permit, and xylazine, an animal tranquilizer that’s illicitly used, according to the complaint.

During the tour Urinov confessed to Morissette that she had once been arrested in Latin America for smuggling drugs in a surfboard, the legal document said. This was a shock because Urinov had told the musician that nothing in her past would cause touring complications.

Morissette claims that after the tour Urinov and her lawyer began sending “increasingly extortionate letters” to Morissette, threatening her with a “patently frivolous” lawsuit and making it clear that they would report drug trafficking charges to U.K. police against Morissette unless she signed the tour manager to a 15-year contract with annual raises and bonuses as well as obtains an immigration attorney that will get Urinov permission to work in the U.S.

“Morissette is not interested in employing Urinov for fifteen years — not only because she is a blackmailer, but also because she was a terrible manager of the 2025 tour,” the lawsuit said. Urinov cost Morissette $70,000 because of a hotel booking mistake that “no competent tour manager would have made.”

The singer-songwriter asked the court to force Urinov to pay back more than $75,000 and to levy a punitive fine against the former tour manager. Morissette also requested a jury trial.

Law360 reported that Urinov is a former executive of Live Nation’s Israeli unit and has sued Morissette in British court though the allegation weren’t clear.

Morissette is scheduled to perform at Riot Fest in Chicago on September 18th and has a residency at Los Angeles’ YouTube Theater in November.
