Excited about This upcoming three-month tour with Drivin N Cryin supporting our new record Crushing Flowers. We haven’t been to some of these cities in many years so I’m looking forward to seeing old friends and new faces. Working with Peter Buck and Barret Martin next year in Olympia, WA.

And a little bit of I love novelty records !! Soundtracks and comedy.
Preferred format I prefer vinyl, but usually it’s when I have guests at home. I love buying my music and only stream as a preview.
If I own it and download it then it’s available to me no matter where I’m traveling and I’m not burdened by needing WiFi. Also, I don’t want my algorithms available to whatever it is that’s going to control us!!! Break away from the engine.

Reckoning, R.E.M.
I listened to it every day on my way to my job site in Atlanta building the water treatment plant. It was a moment of great transition for me moving from Milwaukee to Atlanta and finding my place and discovering new music and friends. It never ages.
The intricacies and influences… The Beau Brummels meets Joy Division? From the South??
R.E.M is the greatest Southern rock band. End of discussion.
They created the “Kudzu Circuit.” Tour routes we all use today—Chapel Hill to New Orleans, Nashville to Gainesville. Trail-blazing original music in shithole bars, bringing the punk spirit to places never before seen!

Rocket to Russia, Ramones
I saw the Ramones in July 1977 and it changed me. I bought the “Sheena Is a Punk Rocker” single and couldn’t wait to buy the new record. It is THE perfect Ramones record.
The Ramones are the ultimate example of a folk band; folk being music that represents an indigenous sound. Just as you can feel the heat and hardship in reggae you can feel the beat of the New York skyline and subway thunder in the Ramones.

Bridge of Sighs, Robin Trower
Trower was arena-rock huge in Milwaukee and Bridge of Sighs was another beautiful record with James Dewar’s vocals and the hypnotic transcendence of Robin Trower on guitar!
I remember being 15 and laying on the couch with my Koss headphones and having a very memorable out- of-body experience…I could feel myself rising up!!! And I never even tried drugs! Organic grass-fed tripping!!

Violent Femmes, Violent Femmes
Another perfect record. Brian Ritchie was an early mentor of mine. We went to high school together and he was a grade older than me. I remember watching him play guitar at the music store. He would invite me to his band practices. He had an amazing grasp of the avant-garde and world music.
When I moved to Atlanta he had me open for the Femmes at the sold-out 688 club on the Hallowed Ground tour…just solo with my brother on washtub bass. It was my first show in Atlanta!

Peter Case, Peter Case
I love this record, and like all my favorites I still play it and I still love it.
Peter is another artist I really love and look up to. From his punk rock band the Nerves to the power pop of The Plimsouls—and his amazing career as a folk aficionado historian and writer/performer—is a daily inspiration for what I am aspiring to be.
