Is Vin Diesel Directing Fast Forever? New Fast & Furious Post Fuels Speculation

Vin Diesel just dropped the most confusing Fast Forever tease yet, and fans don’t know what to think. The actor’s cryptic new Instagram post fueled fresh speculation about a potential directorial shake-up on the long-awaited franchise finale.

Vin Diesel may have teased he’s directing Fast Forever

Vin Diesel posted a cryptic update about Fast Forever on Instagram. The actor shared a black-and-white photo of his 1970 Dodge Charger R/T. He captioned the image “Director… Hmmm…,” sparking immediate speculation about a potential directorial change on the franchise finale.

The tease gains significance because of recent developments around the film. Director Louis Leterrier recently revealed he had not read the Fast Forever screenplay yet. “I’d love to tell you the full truth, but I can’t,” the filmmaker said. Leterrier added, “There will be an ending, and it’s great.”

Meanwhile, Diesel previously praised the Mike Lesslie-written script on Instagram. “It is the best script I have read in decades,” he wrote. He also added, “I am still crying.” Leterrier’s admission that he hadn’t seen the screenplay raised questions about his involvement.

Diesel does hold directorial credits on projects like 1997’s Strays and the short film Los Bandoleros. The latter connects directly to the Fast franchise’s mythology. He also serves as a producer on the series. However, no official announcement has confirmed any change in the directing role.

Fans responded to the Instagram post with excitement and confusion alike. Many flooded the comments with fire emojis and enthusiasm for the image. Others questioned what the post actually meant. One possibility is that Diesel teased directing a short or featurette rather than the feature film itself. The situation remains unclear until Universal makes a formal announcement.

Diesel told Variety last month that Fast Forever will start shooting in December 2026. The film currently holds a March 17, 2028 theatrical release date.
