It’s only taken nine episodes for a comment Eva made on The Ark Season 3 premiere to resurface.
What’s frustrating is that none of these smart people are seeing what’s right in front of them: major storylines connecting with each other.
At times, it feels like the crew is looking for a Band-Aid solution when they should be looking at the root of the problem.
However, the episode more than makes up for the frustration as it brings hope that Kabir and Garnet could get to the bottom of the Gen-3 clone psychosis issue.
It’s About Time the Oxygen Levels Were Discussed
During The Ark Season 3 premiere, Eva made a comment to Zed about the oxygen levels.
They flew past the boundary declared safe to see what was on Homebase-1, and that’s when Eva saw the oxygen levels had dropped considerably.
Now, I get that Eva was suddenly taken over by the Brice mystery, but you’d think Zed would have taken this comment seriously.
Instead, it was completely forgotten until The Ark Season 3 Episode 9, and it only came up again because all the birds fell out of the sky.
It makes no sense to bring this up only now, since multiple people would surely be worried about oxygen levels dropping near where they live.
Why didn’t they start looking for the cause? Why does it only come out when John Doe comes to talk with Kelly?
The indigenous people—who I guess we’re just calling the Cave People now—said EF-1 fell out of the sky because of the sun.
I am trying to figure out whether John Doe offered no other details because he couldn’t communicate, or because he knows he’s in trouble if the truth comes out.
After all, as Zed finally accepts that the Cave People may not have shot EF-1 out of the sky, he tells Alicia what to look for in the data.
That’s when they learn someone has created something that could manipulate the sun’s magnetic field and rays.
It all connects to the lack of oxygen, as Eva and Brice learn the volcano has erupted and lava is on its way to Homebase-1’s boundary.

The need to fix whatever that rock is in the cave is connected to the oxygen levels. It’s no wonder the Cave People have been so insistent that Kelly and Angus fix it.
It raises a lot of questions about how they can’t fix their own technology and need someone from Earth to do it, but I’m willing to overlook that for now for the sake of the plot.
What’s even more frustrating is that nobody has realized everything that happened on Ross-128 is connected to this.
Eva mentioned the cave structure on Ross-128, and Brice has mentioned that Doc wanted him to fix something. Yet, nobody is smart enough to put it all together?
My theory is that the rock isn’t a weapon, but a way to prevent the solar field from destroying the planet, allowing the Cave People to live.
Something has broken that, creating a ticking time bomb.
I’m still not sure how the two planets are connected, but they are, and whatever created Doc knows the rock on Homebase-1 needs to be fixed to prevent the volcano from destroying the entire planet.
Everyone needs to work together, and yet nobody is even on the same page.
The language barrier isn’t helping, but even without it, all these smart people seem completely dumb.
I don’t even care that Brice can’t remember Eva right now, because all I want is for someone to put it all together now that it’s staring them in the face.
Clones Are People Too
I was happy to see Garnet’s story take place elsewhere, because it gave me some time away from the other characters’ frustration.
Kabir and Garnet head to Jill for a cure, and that’s where they find out something surprising.
A whole space station has a Gen-3 clone. It sounds like there are more Gen-3 clones there, but for now, one of Garnet is what matters.
I have loved how Jill has stepped in to help find this cure, but I’ve been wondering why Jill and Clark were so adamant about not going to Drake’s ship.
I know they escaped and Drake is probably angry at them, but there seems to be more to it than that.
Garnet and Kabir are so focused on the research that they missed the subtle signs, and it’s sure to come up before The Ark Season 3 ends.
It’s not important right now, but I appreciated that this episode focused a little on how Trust has changed over the three seasons. A leopard can change its stripes.
When Trust is awkward and somewhat selfish, it’s easy to think that he’s still the same trillionaire from the first season.
However, Garnet is quick to point out that he has changed, and he certainly has.
He cares about the people around him, and even as he considered living the high life on this space station, he still had a conscience when it came to the clones.
As the fight went on, he could have easily watched as Garnet was killed. Instead, he ran to Ian, Kabir, and Kimmie to tell them that Anton had mods.
He made sure Ian didn’t just turn the mods off temporarily, gleefully sharing that Anton’s mods had been permanently disabled.
This is a man who likes his money and still believes he’s one of the smartest people around, but he doesn’t want to be lonely anymore. He values his friends, and The Ark Season 3 Episode 9 does a wonderful job of showing that.
The hour also does a perfect job of bringing up the topic of slavery, indentured servitude, and whether clones are people in such a short space of time.
This is a huge topic of discussion, but The Ark knows when not to digress. The team needed the clone, and that’s what they got.
Now, it’s time for Kabir to see if she can recreate the cure and offer hope to all the Gen-3 clones out there.
