Guillermo Rodriguez is the underdog of Dancing With The Stars this season. Despite getting the lowest score for four weeks straight, voters at home keep sending him to the next round. His competitor, Jackson Olson, reputation as a nice guy was dinged after a shocking diss aimed at Guillermo. Now, the Savannah Bananas player broke his silence and addressed the drama after massive backlash from fans. Keep reading for the latest on the unexpected feud.
Savannah Bananas Star Angers Fans With Guillermo Diss
Guillermo Rodriguez has charmed late-night audiences on Jimmy Kimmel Live! since 2003. But now the sidekick is in the limelight on Dancing With The Stars. He’s not the best dancer and regularly ends up at the very bottom of the leaderboard. However, viewers at home give him enough votes to stay in the competition.
Savannah Bananas player Jackson Olson showed a rare look at his petty side with a joke about Guillermo after a recent episode. “How did you do this better than him with 2 hours of rehearsal?” he wrote on a video of Loco Beach Coconuts player Erik Ostberg recreating Guillermo’s Week 3 dance routine.
Jackson Olson was immediately blasted as mean, with many fans vowing not to vote for him after he dissed Guillermo. They must have stuck to their word because Jackson Olson was in the bottom three alongside Guillermo and Ciara Miller on Mariah Carey Night. Ciara Miller was ultimately eliminated and Jackson Olson has been doing damage control ever since the rude comment went viral.
Jackson Olson Breaks Silence On Drama, Reveals Coping Mechanism
Jackson Olson apologized to Guillermo and DWTS fans. He later made a TikTok to prove that the beef was squashed. However, the media is still holding the Savannah Bananas player accountable for the unexpected feud.
Jackson Olson has always been a social media darling for his nice-guy attitude and spreading positivity. However, his rep took a hit amid the Guillermo drama. He opened up to Entertainment Weekly about how he dealt with the backlash.
“It comes down to being an athlete,” he told the outlet. “You’re always going to get hate, you’re going to make mistakes, too. And if you make a mistake, you just have to realize you can come back from it. You can be the person that you know you are, and that was the thing I had to remind myself.”
Jackson Olson took a break from sharing silly videos on social media for a few days after the scandal broke. However, fans begged him to start posting again, so he did. “That’s the only reason I’m on this show — I make fun videos and I inspire people,” he explained.
@jacksonolson_ To G and to all of you, I am truly sorry that my comment I made the other day caused this much unnecessary negativity. I never meant for it to do that and I take full ownership and I love this guy. Now let’s do what this show is meant to be about: DANCE🕺 ily G
He’s been in the bottom three twice so far in the competition. He revealed how he braces himself for possible elimination. I just kind of calm my nerves down. I’m like, ‘Whatever is meant to be, it’s out of my hands.’ So, you just keep going.”
“Everything about being an athlete sets you up for a competition like this,” Jackson Olson said. Guillermo Rodriguez has forgiven his competitor for the mean comment. But have viewers? Dancing With the Stars airs Tuesdays at 8 PM Eastern on ABC and Disney+.
