Jaafar Jackson is confident about reprising his role as Michael Jackson in the highly anticipated sequel. Michael 2 is currently in the works following the global box-office success of the 2026 biopic.
During his appearance at the Newport Beach Film Festival, Jaafar Jackson was asked about his approach to portraying his late uncle’s role in Michael 2. He appears confident about stepping back into the role of the musical legend.
Talking to Entertainment Tonight, he revealed, “I feel like my confidence and just the knowingness of I was able to accomplish what I did with the first one will have a lot more ease on my shoulders with knowing I can take on a role of that magnitude.” Jackson added, “I’m just excited to be a part of it. And I’ll be ready once they tell me to go.”
What we know so far about Jaafar Jackson’s Michael 2
While the full plot remains under wraps, Michael 2 could address allegations and controversies surrounding the King of Pop. During a previous interview, Jaafar Jackson revealed, “I think the second film will give even more insight from his point of view, because at the end of the day, [the allegations] are always from someone else’s.”
Jackson said the sequel would offer his uncle’s perspective on the controversies surrounding him. He added, “That’s really the issue we’ve been having as a family – not having Michael’s voice being heard. I think that’s very, very important, especially in the late years.”
The sequel is also expected to feature several scenes that were filmed for Michael but weren’t actually used. Lionsgate’s chairman Adam Fogelson has made it clear that they want to make the best possible sequel following the overwhelmingly positive response to the first film. Speaking to Variety, he said, “That is what the audience is going to want and deserve after the experience we gave them the first time.”
Michael 2 has not yet received an official release date.
