A trailer has finally been dropped for Ron Howard‘s latest masterpiece. The Netflix movie Avedon, which already has big Oscar buzz surrounding it even before its release, has earned its official trailer, dropped on YouTube earlier today.

Directed by Howard, the documentary explores the life and work of legendary American photographer Richard Avedon. It encompasses looks at the icon’s epic portraits as well as the lasting impact his photography had on fashion and art.

Avedon had its world premiere in the Special Screenings section of the Cannes Film Festival 2026 on May 17, where it competed for the L’Œil d’or. The Netflix flick had its North American premiere at the 53rd Telluride Film Festival as well, and will be available to watch on the streaming giant in early November.

Check out the Avedon trailer below (watch more trailers):

What happens in the Avedon trailer?

The official trailer for Howard’s documentary Avedon previews the life and career of the titular legendary fashion and portrait photographer. It showcases his personal archives, behind-the-lens footage, and new interviews with collaborators and stars.

In the over-two-minute-long clip, Avedon’s collaborators and peers note how the photographer changed visual culture and transcended traditional magazine work, stating, “He changed everything.” It features insights from the legendary 20th-century photographer’s son John Avedon, Calvin Klein, Larry Gagosian, Isabella Rossellini, Twiggy, and Lauren Hutton.

The trailer also sheds light on the mastermind’s journalistic and social work, including documenting the Civil Rights Movement, anti-Vietnam War protests, and portraits of figures like Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X. It also highlights how he pushed major stars and public figures to drop their public facades and reveal genuine emotion.

As the movie traces Avedon’s six-decade career, it brings to light his time at Harper’s Bazaar, his fashion and portrait work, and his documentation of social and political movements over the years.

Avedon begins streaming for audiences worldwide on Netflix on November 11, 2026.
