Sydney Sweeney on Why She Kept Jonathan Davino Relationship Private

Sydney Sweeney revealed why she decided to keep her relationship with her ex-fiancé, Jonathan Davino, whom she dated for over seven years, private. She also explained how being a public figure has made it more difficult to “experience love,” along with the fear of “being alone.”

Sydney Sweeney on why she maintained privacy around Jonathan Davino relationship

During her cover shoot for Cosmopolitan magazine, Sydney Sweeney shared a peek at her love life. Despite being in a relationship with businessman Jonathan Davino for over seven years, the actress rarely made a public appearance with him. In her interview with the outlet, she explained why.

“I was in a relationship for a very long time, for seven and a half years, and I never talked about it. I was very private. No one would ever see us. I think it’s important to have some things for myself,” the Euphoria actress explained.

The rumours about the Immaculate actress dating Davino surfaced in 2018. They reportedly got engaged in 2022, but ultimately called it off in March 2025.

The Anyone But You actress acknowledged that she’s a public figure. However, she went on to explain that she is in her 20s and still trying to figure out love. She believes that with millions of people continuously scrutinizing her, the process has become all the more difficult.

Sydney Sweeney added that throughout their 20s, she had focused intensely on work, and now she wants to experience more of life. “But it’s hard deciding that I want to experience love in the public eye. I’m just navigating it all,” The White Lotus actress shared.

The Housemaid star said that being in the public eye isn’t the only issue. She admitted that she struggles with making new connections and also carries a fear of “being alone for the rest” of her life.

“I’ve never dated before. I’ve never even used a dating app,” The Voyeurs actress shared. “My friends who aren’t in the industry are like, ‘We’ll just go out and meet someone.’ But I can’t just meet someone at a bar. It doesn’t work like that.”

Nonetheless, she has a clear idea of what type of partner she is looking for. “I look for someone who will be my best friend, who I can hang out with, talk to all the time, dream up things with, and work with,” the two-time Emmy nominee explained.
