Zombieland 1 & 2 Find New Streaming Home After Leaving Netflix

Zombieland and Zombieland: Double Tap are coming to a new streaming home. The 2009 post-apocalyptic zombie comedy movie and its 2019 sequel are currently available on Netflix, but they are leaving the platform next month.

Zombieland 1 and 2 to stream on HBO Max next

The two Zombieland movies will begin streaming on HBO Max on September 1, 2026, according to PC Mag. Meanwhile, What’s on Netflix reports that the films are leaving Netflix on the same day.

While it has been about 27 years since the release of the first movie, the Zombieland franchise remains popular. Ruben Fleischer directed the first film, based on a script by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. The franchise’s star-filled cast includes Jesse Eisenberg as Columbus, Woody Harrelson as Tallahassee, Emma Stone as Wichita / Krista, and Abigail Breslin as Little Rock.

In the first film, the four main characters form an unlikely bond amid a zombie apocalypse and set out on a cross-country road trip to a rumored sanctuary. In the sequel, which Fleischer also directed, all the main stars return. This time, Columbus, Tallahassee, and Wichita set out from the White House to Graceland to look for Little Rock.

Given the critical and commercial response Zombieland received, the movie’s enduring popularity is understandable. Double Tap was not as big a success, but it performed well enough. Zombieland made over $102 million globally on a $23.6 million budget, while the second feature made $122 million on a higher production budget than the first movie.

Further, the first movie currently has an 89% approval rating, while the sequel has a 68% rating. In a ComingSoon review for the original film, Brad Brevet shared, “This is a good, not great, film that feels just slightly longer than its 81-minute running time,” and later added that “it satisfies its intended audience and then some.”

Notably, other movies releasing on September 1 on HBO Max include Magnolia, Saltburn, and The Revenant.
