It’s not a great sign when watching a new show just makes you think about other, better shows. That’s the case with Netflix’s Ginny & Georgia — premiering Wednesday, Feb. 24 on the streamer; I’ve seen five of the ten episodes — a mildly cute, kind of boring new dramedy that wears its pop-culture inspirations proudly on its sleeve. Maybe a little too proudly: It feels like a show created by an algorithm, or conjured up from a TV writer’s vision board. It borrows liberally from past shows, primarily Gilmore Girls and Dead to Me, but the influences don’t all blend…

For many years, there was a call across social media for more YA books set in college. Teens like to read up in terms of age was part of the reason, but the other was that many adult YA readers wanted to slip into a story that was a little more mature than high school. New Adult, which never took off as more than contemporary romance with young main characters, didn’t fit the bill, and while there were calls for older YA main characters, a parallel call for younger YA main characters sought stories that were appropriate for older tween…

It has been a while since there was an interesting horror-related release from one of the most famous comic brands in history. Actually, when you look through its vast catalog of titles, you’ll find that there aren’t many video games with horror elements in them at all. 2007’s Ghost Rider, a “God of War wannabe” adventure, is the most recent title that comes to mind — and it wasn’t up to much, with its repetitive structure and brainless combat. Then, we could remember a couple of Blade’s entries that allowed us to play as the most badass vampire hunter from…
