Wheel of Fortune puzzles sometimes have contestants stumped — but this time, it was Ryan Seacrest’s outfit that left fans confused.
On the Tuesday, April 8 episode of Wheel, Seacrest, 50, wore a charcoal plaid suit jacket over a midnight blue, open-collared dress shirt, a pocket square neatly tucked into the breast pocket of the jacket. The host is known for his crisp style, so it’s not surprising that viewers at home were paying close attention to Seacrest’s fashion — to the point where one fan questioned a “strange,” tiny detail.
“I do not understand the strange third pocket on Ryan’s jacket. His right side, above the ‘normal’ pocket on his jacket,” one person wrote on the Wheel of Fortune subreddit after Tuesday’s episode, adding: “I’ve never seen this before on a jacket.”
The user appeared to be referring to the thinner pocket on Seacrest’s jacket front, which sat above the outer pocket.
A fellow Redditor quickly came to the rescue with a Google search, noting that the pocket the user was talking about is actually called a “ticket pocket.”
“Originally used for flat items like train tickets but now it’s more often used for change or credit cards,” the second fan wrote, before adding: “I’m not a fan of that look.👀.”
According to bespoke menswear site Hocketry, the aptly named ticket pockets were, in fact, “originally designed for storing train tickets” — but have since “evolved into a stylistic detail associated with tailored and high-quality menswear.”
For someone whose own style journey has heavily evolved through the years — American Idol viewers remember the longtime host’s early 2000s look — Seacrest sporting a high-end, carefully tailored suit for his new role as the host of Wheel of Fortune certainly makes sense.
