Seth Rogen Comedy ‘Neighbors’ Set To Stream on Netflix in June

For those looking for a laugh this summer from the comfort of your home, Netflix certainly has you covered in June. One of the better comedies to emerge within the last decade or so, Neighbors, is headed to streaming, and it’s going to be especially enticing for fans of Seth Rogen, who is riding high with his critically acclaimed series The Studio, and those who want to remember a shirtless Zac Efron acting like a total frat boy.

According to What’s on Netflix, Neighbors hits the streamer on Jun. 1, which is perfect timing for those looking for silly entertainment on what should be a fine summer day. Directed by Nicholas Stoller from a screenplay by Andrew J. Cohen and Brendan O’Brien, Neighbors follows a couple who find themselves at odds with a fraternity that has moved in next door, which leads to both sides having a full-on neighborhood war. In addition to Rogen and Efron, the film also stars Rose Byrne, Dave Franco, and Christopher Mintz-Plasse.

Neighbors was a critical and financial success upon release, registering a 73% on Rotten Tomatoes with a consensus that reads, “With plenty of bawdy humor evenly spread between its well-matched stars, Neighbors earns its R rating and filmgoers’ laughs.” The film went on to gross $150.2 million domestically at the box office and $270.7 million worldwide against a rather slim $18 million budget. At the time of its release, the film’s $49 million opening weekend was the third-highest U.S. opening for a non-sequel R-rated comedy, behind Sex and the City ($57 million) and Ted ($54.4 million).

Zac Efron & Seth Rogen starred alongside each other in the 2014 comedy hit Neighbors, which went on to become a critical & financial success.

The success of the film was enough to spawn a sequel. 2016’s Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising follows Rogen and Bryne’s Radner family as they now have to outwit a new sorority that is living next door to them as they are trying to sell their house, which is currently in escrow. To help them, they enlist Efron’s Teddy Sanders, someone very familiar with causing a neighborhood war. All the major stars from the first film returned for the sequel and were joined by Chloë Grace Moretz, Kelsey Grammer, Awkwafina, Billy Eichner and Selena Gomez.

The sequel was met with decent reviews, registering a 64% on Rotten Tomatoes with a consensus that reads, “Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising may not be strictly necessary, but it still wrings a surprising amount of humor from a recycled premise with a distaff twist.” Despite the critical notices, the film was down considerably at the box office compared to its predecessor, grossing $55.4 million domestically and $108.8 million worldwide on a $35 million budget.
