Dive Into The Production of ‘Mouthwashing’ With New “Mouthwashing: Design Works” Book

It’s been a year since Wrong Organ and Critical Reflex released their surreal psychological horror title Mouthwashing, and the teams are celebrating not only with a new anniversary trailer, but also by announcing a new retrospective book on the game’s development with “Mouthwashing: Design Works“.

Available for pre-order now courtesy of Lost In Cult, “Mouthwashing: Design Works” tells the development story of the game, from its origins as an expansion for Wrong Organ’s previous title, through to the game’s release and critical acclaim.

Written by Khee Hoon Chan, the book uncovers development insights through interviews with developer Wrong Organ’s founders: designer and programmer Jeffrey Tomec, art and narrative design Johanna Kasurinen, audio designer Martin Halldin, and producer Kai Moore.

Across approximately 200 pages, the book delves into the darkest, dingiest corners of the game’s development, its myriad of influences, and the macabre secrets behind its ill-fated cast and the Tulpar: the game’s grimy, dilapidated freighter where the story takes place.

For those who love that “little extra” with their books, “Mouthwashing: Design Works” is available in Standard and Deluxe editions. The Standard edition of the book comes in a premium hardback book with section-sewn binding, while the Deluxe edition comes encased in a Dragonbreath-themed box, while the book itself comes in a die-cut slipcase, featuring blood-red foil embossing and a die-cut hole displaying the game’s iconic eye logo.

That’s not all, as the Deluxe edition also features the following:

    • Unfold the one-page foldout micro-TTRPG designed by DNGN Club Games, complete with a set of teal Mouthwashing-themed dice.
    • Adorn your home with Mouthwashing art printed on two A3 posters and five A5 Polle postcards.
    • Throw your own mock birthday party with a papercraft set complete with a birthday hat and bottle of mouthwash, designed by 3D papercraft expert Ellie Sampson.
    • Maximize your potential through your Pony Express bi-monthly psychological welfare examination survey.
    • Save your place in “Mouthwashing: Design Works” with a custom bookmark.
    • Decorate your jacket or bag with a Mouthwashing embroidered eye patch.

The first 1,000 Deluxe Edition pre-orders are signed by key Wrong Organ staff. The Deluxe Edition is exclusive to the pre-order campaign, ending on Friday, November 28, 2025, at 6PM GMT/1 PM EST. Shipping is estimated to begin in Q4 2026.

Mouthwashing is currently available on PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and the Nintendo Switch.
