‘Resident Evil Requiem’ Producer Hints at “characters from the past series” Showing Up

Fans have been speculating whether or not we’ll be seeing Leon Kennedy or other familiar faces in the upcoming Resident Evil Requiem. And Capcom has been coy to say one way or the other, choosing to instead focus on new protagonist Grace Ashcroft. That is, until Requiem producer Masato Kumazawa dropped a tidbit that we would be seeing a familiar face or two.

In a new interview with Australian outlet Well Played, Kumazawa chatted it up about the upcoming ninth entry in the main series, mainly covering topics of “returns”, such as the game returning to Raccoon City for the first time in a long time, for example. When it came to talking about Grace, who is the daughter of Alyssa Ashcroft from Resident Evil Outbreak, Kumazawa was asked if fans could we expect more characters from Outbreak to show up in Requiem.

“I would say that yes, there are going to be some characters from the past series to come in,” says Kumazawa, but also says for fans to temper their expectations. “We can’t promise you anything about that, but the only thing I can say is that there will be characters that have been involved in the Raccoon City incident involved in the game.”

Of course, that broad of an answer leads to more speculation, since there are more than a few survivors of the incident. However, Kumazawa didn’t go into any further details.

Kumazawa did return to Outbreak in another question about if Capcom would ever revisit that series or that style of game. Unfortunately, he did say that Capcom currently doesn’t have any plans of developing games like Outbreak “at the moment.” However, he does mention that if fans want a return, or they want a game similar to Outbreak, Capcom might consider it. “I personally would like Outbreak and maybe eventually down the road I would like to make one, but at the moment, no.”

Resident Evil Requiem comes out to play for fans on February 27 for PC via Steam and Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and the Nintendo Switch 2.
