Pavement Returning To Action At Mosswood Meltdown Pre-Party

Pavement told fans its one-off October 2024 performance in New York would be its “last show for a long time,” but Stephen Malkmus and company did play two festivals, a warmup club gig and CBS’ The Late Show With Stephen Colbert in 2025 while helping promote the off-kilter film Pavements.

In a surprise move, the band will be back in action July 17 at a pre-party for the Mosswood Meltdown festival at Mosswood Park in Oakland, Ca., which will be hosted as usual by auteur John Waters. So far, no other Pavement shows have been announced for 2026.

The band will be joined at the pre-party by Wednesday and fellow reunited indie rockers Vivian Girls, and tickets are now available. The actual lineup for the festival on July 18-19 will be announced “in the coming weeks,” per organizers.

In other Pavement news, fans can sample audio of a vintage performance of the song “Summer Babe” from a May 19, 1992, show at the Cattle Club in Sacramento, Ca., which is featured in the recent documentary Lourder Than You Think about the band’s onetime drummer Gary Young. “Please beware: side effects of listening to this may include doing headstands in public,” filmmakers wrote on Instagram.
