Chuck Negron, who, as one of the original vocalists of Three Dog Night, sang on the band’s hit singles “Joy to the World,” “One,” “Easy to Be Hard,” “An Old Fashioned Love Song,” and “The Show Must Go On,” has died at the age of 83.

According to his representative, Negron passed away at his home in Studio City, California, on Monday, February 2nd, surrounded by his family. He had been battling heart failure in addition to COPD in the later years of his life.

Three Dog Night achieved immense success during their initial decade run between 1967 and 1976, earning 21 top 40 hits and selling 60 million records. However, Negron’s drug issues contributed to the band’s breakup, and it would be decades before he returned to making music. He later launched a solo career in the 1990s and detailed his life in his autobiography, Three Dog Nightmare.
