News has come out that a contestant was recently seriously injured during the filming of Survivor Greece. Contestant Stavros Floros reportedly lost part of his leg in a boating accident.

The contestant was said to be spearfishing in the waters off Saona Island in the Dominican Republic during a break from filming when the incident occurred, according to AcunMedya, the show’s production company.

In a statement, AcunMedya dubbed what happened a “serious accident.” As noted by The Toronto Sun, “We consider it necessary to clarify the exact circumstances under which the incident occurred.”

The Show’s Facebook Also Shared A Few Updates Concerning Stavros Floros’ Condition

As the statement continued, “According to the information available so far, the accident appears to have happened when a tourist boat injured the contestant while he was spearfishing outside the competitive process of the reality show.” Reportedly, there was an “immediate response” to provide Floros aid following the incident.

The incident is said to currently be under investigation. According to local authorities, Floros was struck by the boat’s engine propellers. This caused the partial amputation of his left leg. His right ankle was also said to be significantly injured.

According to People, a translated statement from the show’s official Facebook page claimed that Floros is “out of danger.” Having been treated at a local ICU, he has reportedly since regained consciousness. It was also shared that “an air transfer to a specialized center in the United States is being considered.”

Citing the Greek news site eKathimerini, the outlet also shared that the Greek television station that airs the series, SKAI Television, has suspended the show’s broadcast until further notice. In a statement, it was shared, “Despite the fact that the production of Survivor is carried out exclusively under the control and responsibility of AcunMedya, SKAI is closely monitoring developments on the participant’s health and will contribute in every possible way to his treatment, as well as to any hospitalization and rehabilitation care that may be required.”
