The Boys Season 5 just entered its final stretch of episodes, with Homelander receiving a major game-changing upgrade. The deranged leader of The Seven finally got the very thing he was looking for, using it to become what he always believed he was meant to be. Consequently, the stakes were raised for Billy Butcher and his team, who remain determined to stop the power-hungry Supe. Notably, the episode also includes a story element similar to Captain America: Civil War.

The Boys uses Captain America: Civil War plot with a twist
Homelander becomes immortal at the end of the newest episode of The Boys.
In Season 5 Episode 6 “Though the Heavens Fall,” the eponymous team used Bombsight’s former lover, the aged Supe Golden Geisha, as bait to lure him so they could grab the V1. The former arrived with it to save her, but ended up fighting Soldier Boy, lured in by Sister Sage to take the substance and destroy it. However, the latter proposed releasing Bombsight from his immortality to allow him to age naturally with Geisha in exchange for the V1. Bombsight agreed to the deal and handed it over.
Earlier in the episode, Sister Sage showed Homelander and Soldier Boy a video of the former doing together with Stormfront, and this caused a rift between the father and son, as Soldier Boy loved the deceased Supe. Notably, this is similar to a core plot point in Captain America: Civil War. In the film, Baron Zemo, aiming to destroy the Avengers, showed Tony Stark and Steve Rogers a video of Bucky Barnes (Winter Soldier) murdering the former’s parents under Hydra’s influence. This prompted a fight involving all of them, causing a rift between the two Avengers as Steve kept the information from Tony.
However, unlike in the film, where Steve and Tony became temporarily estranged, Soldier Boy and Homelander manage to reconcile. The former realizes that Stormfront likely wanted the latter to become immortal and handed him the V1. Subsequently, Homelander injected himself with it, gaining both immortality and immunity from Billy Butcher’s supe-killing virus.
The first six episodes of The Boys Season 5 are currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
