If you want to talk to Whoopi Goldberg, make sure a camera is nearby. The View host reportedly refuses to talk to her co-hosts after the cameras go down. Keep reading to find out why.
Whoopi Goldberg Returns To The View After Unexpected Absence
The View didn’t air new episodes the week leading up to the Fourth of July holiday. The hosts were on a much-needed break. Yet, when the show returned on Monday, July 6, Whoopi Goldberg was a no-show. She revealed in a video address that she was stuck in Italy after a volcanic eruption shut down the airport. The actress has a second home in the European country.

“A volcano ate my homework,” she joked before vowing to get back to New York as soon as possible. She was able to catch a flight home and returned to The View on Tuesday, July 7. However, one of her co-hosts revealed on Monday that Whoopi Goldberg refuses to talk to them off camera.
Alyssa Farah Griffin joined The View executive producer Brian Teta on the show’s Behind the Table podcast on Monday. When she wasn’t gushing over Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift’s wedding, the former White House staffer spilled major tea about Whoopi Goldberg.
Whoopi Goldberg Refuses To Talk To Co-Hosts Off Camera
Alyssa Farah Griffin and Brian Teta discussed the chaos on Monday when three of the co-hosts weren’t able to make it into work. The weather prevented Ana Navarro and Sara Haines from getting to the studio. Brian Teta texted Joy Behar in a group chat to ask her to come in on her day off.

“This morning when the text thread with all the hosts started popping off when you were explaining what was happening, I kept ignoring it,” Alyssa Farah Griffin confessed. She added, “I was like, I feel like this is just Joy [Behar] probably texting about what she wants to talk about today.”
Brian Teta said that the group text chain was a last resort amid the emergency hosting situation. “The last thing I want to do in the morning is start a text thread with all the hosts, because it always spirals into madness. It’s a bad idea, but I did it today,” he said.
Alyssa Farah Griffin suggested that he do what Whoopi Goldberg does: leave the group chat entirely.
Whoopi Is Not A Chatter
Brian Teta confessed that he briefly considered it. “I almost added Robin, the head of the Hot Topics team, to the chat, and then I almost left it,” he said.
Whoopi Goldberg outright refuses to engage with her co-hosts in a group text. She admitted as much in 2024. “I feel like Michael Corleone, because I take myself off the group texts,” she said at the time. Sunny Hostin joked that Joy Behar puts Whoopi back in the group chat. Another host suggested that the actress silence the notifications, but Whoopi Goldberg refused.
“Silencing y’all does not mean being part of it. I don’t care, I don’t care what you’re upset about. It’s the weekend!” Whoopi Goldberg explained. Her co-hosts are used to her leaving the group chat and continue the discussion without her. Tell us in the comments if you’re like Whoopi and leave the group chat immediately.
