The new episode of the Disney+ series X-Men ’97 introduces Spider-Man and more, but with a twist. Created by Beau DeMayo for Marvel Studios, X-Men ’97 serves as a revival of X-Men: The Animated Series. The show premiered on March 20, 2024, with Season 2 debuting on July 1, 2026.
Spider-Man, The Thing, and more appear in X-Men ’97 Season 2 Episode 5
X-Men ’97 uniquely introduces various iconic Marvel characters in Season 2, Episode 5. Morph, voiced by JP Karliak, transforms into Silver Samurai, Spider-Man, The Thing, Deadpool, Puck, Sasquatch, and Guardian throughout the episode. Additionally, Morph also turns into the main characters Wolverine, Cyclops, and Jean Grey.
Titled “Weapon X, Lies, and DVDs,” the fifth episode of the sophomore season explores Wolverine’s past. Logan recruits Sabretooth, Lady Deathstrike, Kane, and Maverick to track down a key Weapon X program scientist, Dr. Cornelius. Morph joins them and serves as a pilot, while providing emotional support to Logan.
Undoubtedly, every Weapon X member seeks revenge for what was done to them, but this episode also underscores that it’s important to look beyond the pain and anger. When the group finds Cornelius, he transforms into a monstrous creature and becomes part of the alien collective known as the Brood.
The mission quickly takes a tragic turn when Kane is killed in an initial helicopter crash, and Maverick is later brutally butchered by a Brood-infected Logan. This effectively conveys the seriousness of the threat. However, the group ultimately destroys the Brood, and adamantium gets bonded back to Wolverine’s bone claws and skeleton.
The episode also depicts significant character development for both Logan and Morph, especially the latter. It explores the complicated relationship between Morph and Wolverine, establishing it as one of the most grounded aspects of Logan’s life. Unfortunately, Logan eventually rejects Morph’s suggestion that he can be more than an animal, noting that this is what he is “best at being.”
X-Men ’97 Season 2 streams new episodes on Wednesdays.
