Russell Crowe’s Unabomber Movie Drops First Look, Sets Netflix Release Date

Netflix has revealed the first look at Unabomber. It’s the next film from Russell Crowe and Jacob Tremblay. The upcoming film will follow the story of the infamous terrorist Ted Kaczynski, starting from his days at Harvard to his becoming the subject of a major FBI investigation.

According to its logline, it’ll see Kaczynski being “subjected to controversial psychological experiments by Professor Henry Murray.” Following that, the narrative will shift to his past resurfacing decades later during his manhunt led by FBI agent Joanne Miller.

What role does Russell Crowe play in Netflix’s Unabomber movie?

Russell Crowe will play Professor Henry Murray, who conducts several psychological experiments during Kaczynski’s second year at Harvard University. According to detailed reports by Alston Chase, Kaczynski spent over 200 hours as part of Murray’s studies.

Besides Crowe and Tremblay, the film also stars Shailene Woodley, Annabelle Wallis, Alexander Ludwig, Steven Ogg, and Marc Menchaca. Woodley plays Miller, the FBI agent hunting the infamous Unabomber. Wallis plays Professor Murray’s academic partner Christiana Morgan.

Unabomber is directed by Janus Metz with the screenplay written by Sam Chalsen & Nelson Greaves. Metz previously directed several episodes of Andor, one episode of True Detective, and movies such as All the Old Knives, Borg vs. McEnroe, and more. The film is produced by Sophie Cassidy for 2.0 Entertainment. Donald J. Lee, Sam Chalsen, and Nelson Greaves serve as executive producers.

“UNABOMBER is a story about a young man who feels increasingly disenfranchised by society and decides to take up violence as a means of revenge,” Metz told Tudum. “We crosscut between two timelines, roughly speaking: the making of the Unabomber and the capture of the Unabomber.”

Unabomber will premiere worldwide on Netflix on September 25, 2026.
