Taron Egerton‘s most underrated action thriller is getting another chance to reach a wider audience. Lionsgate has announced a new 4K release for the acclaimed 2025 crime thriller She Rides Shotgun. The Nick Rowland-directed movie earned praise for its emotional story and standout performances but flew under the radar during its theatrical run.
After its limited theatrical release on Aug. 1, 2025, the crime thriller film found a wider audience through streaming. Now, Lionsgate has announced the release of 4K, Blu-ray, and digital for Aug. 18, 2026.
The film’s synopsis reads, “A girl marked for death must fight and steal to stay alive, learning from the most frightening man she knows: her father. An adaptation of Jordan Harper’s award-winning novel.”
Alongside Egerton, the cast also includes Ana Sophia Heger, Rob Yang, and John Carroll Lynch. Luke Piotrowski, Jordan Harper, and Ben Collins wrote the screenplay based on Harper’s 2017 novel of the same name.
Egerton and Heger’s performances received widespread praise from critics. The film holds a respectable 88% Tomatometer score and 92% Popcornmeter score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Before taking on the role of Nate in She Rides Shotgun, the Welsh star had already established himself as a versatile leading man. He broke out as Eggsy in Kingsman: The Secret Service and Kingsman: The Golden Circle. The actor played the lead in Eddie the Eagle, and his most recent project was the Netflix film Apex.
Egerton also voices Johnny, the teenage gorilla, in the Sing franchise. He reached another career high with Rocketman, earning a Golden Globe for his acclaimed portrayal of music icon Elton John.
For She Rides Shotgun, the Birkenhead-born actor transformed his appearance even further, trading his familiar boyish look for a shaved head and extensive tattoos to play a hardened ex-con. Speaking to Tyler Treese of ComingSoon, the Welsh actor shared his thoughts on playing Nate: “I think the messiness of this story, the imperfectness of this story, and Nate’s deeply flawed nature, I think are all very reflective of how life often is. Life often is messy, and you often don’t get the outcome you want, and things don’t work out in the way you’d hoped.”
Taron Egerton will next appear in Everybody Wants to Fuck Me, which is scheduled to screen at the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival in September.
