Tom Holland believes Marvel is intentionally withholding Avengers: Secret Wars details from him for a good reason. Following Spider-Man: Brand New Day, fans are expecting Holland to reprise his heroic role in the upcoming ensemble. However, Holland has been adamant about being kept in the dark by Marvel Studios.
In an interview with Josh Horowitz, Holland discussed the potential future of Spider-Man in the MCU. The actor touched on his history of spoiling moments from upcoming films. Holland spoke about how he would tackle wearing the symbiote suit in future movies, revealing he doesn’t know if it will happen in Secret Wars.
“I swear to you, Josh, that I have no idea what Secret Wars is about,” he said. “And I think that it is by design, because Marvel knows I’m going on this press tour and that is their biggest asset. I think it’s really important that no one ruins it.”
Keeping Tom Holland in the dark may be Marvel’s smartest move yet
Holland added that he went on a holiday with Joe Russo, one of the directors on the upcoming Avengers films. However, Russo didn’t tell Holland anything about the ensemble films. Holland is well aware of his past reputation for spreading spoilers, often by accident, about his upcoming films. He admitted that there’s a part of him that “loves it.”
“There are times when we kind of, maybe, leant into it to try and create some buzz on the internet. I am pretty loose-lipped, but it’s only because I’m really excited.”
The actor added that his penchant for accidentally spoiling films comes from the fact that he is a fan of the universe. Holland debuted in the MCU in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War. Since then, the actor has spoiled many things, including confirming that Marvel was working on a Spider-Man trilogy before an official announcement. He also walked on stage before a fan screening for Avengers: Infinity War, yelling, “I’m still alive!” before realizing the audience had not watched it yet.
Marvel keeping Holland in the dark should make it easier to contain any leaks regarding its massive crossover film. Neither Marvel nor Sony Pictures has confirmed whether Holland will return as Spider-Man in Avengers: Doomsday or Secret Wars.
Holland will play the wall-crawler once again in Spider-Man: Brand New Day when it opens in theaters on July 31, 2026. The film received positive reviews following its premiere, scoring 91% on Rotten Tomatoes.
