Stephen King & Sam Raimi Finally Team Up for New Horror Movie, First Details Revealed

Stephen King and Sam Raimi are collaborating on a new horror movie. Fans have been waiting years for this collaboration. While King and Raimi are joining forces, another rising filmmaking duo is set to direct the adaptation.

King’s novel Desperation is being adapted into a feature film, with Raimi attached as a producer. Previously, the novel was adapted into a TV movie by Mick Garris, starring Tom Skerritt, Steven Weber, and Annabeth Gish. However, a new movie is being made for the big screen, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Moreover, the filmmaking duo behind Final Destination: Bloodlines, Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein, are in talks to direct the adaptation. The logline reads, “Stranded in a remote desert town where something evil has awakened, a group of travelers must fight to survive when a sadistic, possessed cop turns routine arrests into a relentless fight for their lives.”

Why horror fans have waited years for a Stephen King and Sam Raimi collaboration

The collaboration comes as welcome news for fans who have been waiting years for the two horror icons to team up.

King’s novels have been adapted into Hollywood horror films for decades. Some of his most famous adaptations include The Shining, It, Carrie, Pet Sematary, and Cujo.

Meanwhile, besides directing the original Spider-Man trilogy, Raimi is known for his works on Evil Dead, The Grudge, The Unholy, Crawl, Don’t Breathe, Send Help, Poltergeist, and Drag Me to Hell.

The two creators share similar storytelling sensibilities, often exploring small-town mysteries, primal fears, and disturbing imagery. Raimi has also long admired King’s work. In a 2022 interview, the filmmaker said he wanted to direct or produce an adaptation of one of King’s works, adding, “Maybe in the future we can work together.”

Raimi is producing the project alongside Robert Tapert, Adam B. Stein, and Zach Lipovsky. Ryan Brennan is writing the screenplay, while Romel Adam and Jose Cañas will serve as executive producers.

A release date for the adaptation has not yet been revealed.
