Mark Ruffalo has found an ally following his alleged antisemitic comments on the Paramount-Warner Bros. merger. Recently, a popular actor starring in the HBO Max comedy-drama Hacks has publicly defended Ruffalo’s words.
Hannah Einbinder, 31, recently took to her Instagram and posted a story that read, “I’m so grateful that Mark Ruffalo drew a connection between the Ellisons providing military technology to Israel during a genocide and their unprecedented media takeover — and pointed out that this is a dangerous consolidation of power that could ultimately be used against us.”
The American actress, who is Jewish, also termed the accusations “LUDICROUS,” as she seemingly did not believe that the Hulk actor made those statements purely because of the Ellisons’ Jewish roots. She added, “Is it also antisemitic to point out that Safra Catz, the Oracle executive vice chair who boasted about the ‘profoundly scary technology’ provided to the IDF, also sits on Paramount’s board? Or that Larry Ellison has been buying favor with Trump by donating tens of millions to his political effort for years? Or that he once offered Netanyahu a lucrative Oracle post?”
Einbinder urged all of her fellow artists to come together and voice their support for the Avengers: Infinity War actor. She also appreciated Ruffalo for speaking up against the “oppressed people everywhere, even when powerful people try to bully us into silence.”
Mark Ruffalo’s Paramount merger criticism sparks controversy
The controversy involving the 58-year-old star began this Friday. He shared a video on his social media which had Safra Catz, via Variety, a Paramount board member, outlining some “really profoundly scary technologies.” These technologies were used by Oracle to fund the Israeli military following the terror attack of October 7.
As Oracle was co-founded by Larry Ellison, who is the father of Paramount Skydance’s CEO, David Ellison, Ruffalo cited Larry as a “classic oligarch.” He also brought in some serious allegations against the Ellisons, as the Hulk actor stated that they “are crushing workers and consolidating the wealth of the world for their own power and concentrated dominance.”
Following Ruffalo’s statement, a Paramount spokesperson pointed out that the 58-year-old has invoked “antisemitic tropes.” They also pointed out that terms such as ‘genocide’ and ‘apartheid’ should not be associated with a corporate deal. The representative also said that the usage of such words “cheapens the very real suffering those words are meant to describe.” Ruffalo also faced significant heat from the Simon Wiesenthal Center and Creative Communities for Peace, which is a Jewish advocacy group.
