Kail Lowry is incredibly well-known for being one of the OG girls on the Teen Mom series. However, despite starting her career as a teen on the show, she definitely takes issue with shows glamorizing teen pregnancy. Keep reading to find out her thoughts on TLC’s version of the same show, Unexpected.
Kail Lowry Gets Real
Kail first appeared in the teen-pregnancy world in 2010 during Season 2 of 16 & Pregnant. At the time, she was with Jo Rivera, and they had a baby named Isaac Rivera. Of course, like all the parents on the show, they had to overcome the struggles of pregnancy while they were still children themselves.
Now, she is talking about another show that’s very similar, Unexpected.

Unexpected follows teens as they are pregnant and after they give birth. However, Kail is worried that they are glorifying teen pregnancy.
“I don’t love it, and I don’t think it’s great,” she says about the show, according to The Ashley’s Reality Roundup.
Apparently, she says Teen Mom was the opposite and really worked to make sure it was realistic.
“It’s almost, like, undoing the work that ‘Teen Mom,’ in the beginning, was trying to do, which is to show people that [teen parenthood] is really hard,” she says. “One of us is crying, one of us can’t pay for something, our boyfriend’s breaking up with us. One of us doesn’t have parents.”
“I think the ‘Unexpected’ series is kind of undoing that,” she continues.
Issues With The Moms
More than just an issue with the show, she has an issue with the parents on the show. For example, she feels that Bella’s mom, Falen, is eager to have her kid on camera. Not only did she sign her daughter and her 13-year-old boyfriend up for the show, but she also encourages their sex life. Needless to say, Kail is not okay with this.

“A mother co-signing and allowing this to happen and making it a joke? No,” she says. “…The fact that they are allowing [the kids’ sex life] to continue is disgusting to me, and they should be ashamed of themselves.”
At the end of the day, Kail blames the network.
“Honestly, I think TLC should be held responsible for this,” she says. “Because this would be glorifying and glamorizing teen pregnancy.”
What About Her Kids?
So, would Kail ever allow any of her children to go on a show? That’s a definite no.
“No kid of mine would go on TV as a pregnant teenager,” she reveals.
This isn’t surprising given all she’s been through.
“I wholeheartedly think that nobody was looking out for us,” she says. “It worked out, but I don’t think anybody was looking out for us. I didn’t even have an attorney look at my contract.”
