The Soska Sisters have sparked online speculation about potentially directing Scream 8. The Canadian twin filmmakers responded to a rumor on X with a cryptic eyes emoji on August 11, 2026. Daniel Richtman previously claimed that Spyglass is “close to signing a director for Scream 8,” according to reports.
The post from Jen and Sylvia Soska came in response to a fan account’s rumor. Specifically, that rumor claimed the twins had “secretly met with studio executives this week.” Besides their online activity, the Soska Sisters are known for directing lower-budget horror films like American Mary and Dead Hooker in a Trunk.
Meanwhile, Spyglass and Paramount Pictures confirmed Scream 8’s development back in April 2026. The studio subsequently enlisted sisters Lilla and Nora Zuckerman to write the screenplay. The Zuckerman sisters previously worked on Poker Face and a cancelled Buffy The Vampire Slayer reboot.
Additionally, Kevin Williamson directed and co-wrote Scream 7 with Guy Busick. However, he has already confirmed he will not return to helm the next installment. Scream 7 still earned over $200 million worldwide, making it the highest-grossing film in the franchise despite receiving a mixed critical reception.
Furthermore, Neve Campbell returned as Sidney Prescott for Scream 7 after skipping the previous film over a pay dispute. Campbell announced her return on Instagram in March 2024, expressing excitement about reprising the iconic role once again.
The film also featured returning cast members Courteney Cox, David Arquette and Mason Gooding alongside newcomers Isabel May and Mckenna Grace. Notably, Scream 7 brought Campbell’s Sidney Prescott back to the franchise for the first time since Scream 4. No casting details for Scream 8 have been confirmed yet.
