Janet Jackson Celebrates 60th Birthday With Sister La Toya

Janet Jackson was surrounded by love as she turned 60.

The “Rhythm Nation” singer shared a sweet Instagram video on Sunday, May 17, documenting her celebrations, featuring friends and family, including her older sister, La Toya Jackson, 69, throwing her an all-day party.

In the 10-minute video, Janet was seen arriving at a house filled with decorations celebrating her 60th as loved ones greeted her. The partygoers can be seen drinking and dancing, singing “Happy Birthday” and praising Janet in heartfelt speeches.

“I’m so grateful for the outpouring of love today. You have all made my 60th so special,” Janet captioned the video. “Every single post, tribute, and wish touches my heart. I thank God for every additional day of life and for putting each of you in it. Wishing you all returned blessings & I look forward to seeing you soon. I love you. ♥️ J.”

Michael Ochs Archives/Getty Images Joe and Katherine Jackson’s famous brood extended way beyond the Jackson 5. While the late Michael Jackson was perhaps the most famous member of the talented family, and his sister Janet a close second, most of their eight siblings worked in music and entertainment since childhood. Janet turned 60 on Saturday, May 16.

In an Instagram tribute, Janet’s older brother, Jackie Jackson, wrote, “Happy Birthday to my incredible sister Janet! 🎉 So proud of the woman and legend you are. Wishing you love, joy, and endless blessings today and always. Love you, sis! ❤️”

Janet is the youngest of the 10 Jackson siblings born to Joe and Katherine Jackson. Her older brother, the King of Pop Michael Jackson, died at age 50 in June 2009 from cardiac arrest, which was caused by a propofol and benzodiazepine overdose.

Michael was recently commemorated on the big screen in the biopic Michael, starring his nephew Jaafar Jackson, who is the son of his brother Jermaine Jackson.

Janet is not depicted as a character in the hit movie, which also stars Colman Domingo as Jackson patriarch Joe and Nia Long as matriarch Katherine.

“I wish everybody was in the movie. She was asked and she kindly declined so you have to respect her wishes,” La Toya told Variety at the movie’s Los Angeles premiere in April. (Janet did not attend the premiere.)

Michael has also been criticized by the late pop star’s only daughter, Paris Jackson, after Domingo reportedly claimed that Paris helped him prepare for his role as Joe.

“@Kingofbingo don’t be telling people I was helpful on the set of a movie I had 0% involvement in lol that is so weird,” Paris, 28, wrote in an Instagram Story in September 2025. “I read one of the first drafts of the script and gave my thoughts on what was dishonest/didn’t sit right with me and when they didn’t address it I moved on with my life. Not my monkeys not my circus. God bless and god speed.”

Michael director Antoine Fuqua explained why the new Michael Jackson biopic doesn’t address longstanding child sexual abuse allegations against the star. In an interview with Deadline published on Sunday, April 26, Fuqua was asked whether the omission of accusations against Jackson “weigh[ed] heavy on your mind and the studio’s?” “It definitely did for a while, […]

In a further post, Paris said, “So I just butted out and left it alone because it’s not my project. They’re going to make whatever they’re going to make. A big reason why I haven’t said anything up until this point is because I know a lot of you guys are gonna be happy with it.”

Paris described the film as “sugarcoated,” writing, “A big section of the film panders to a very specific section of my dad’s fandom that still lives in the fantasy, and they’re gonna be happy with it. … The narrative is being controlled and there’s a lot of inaccuracy and there’s a lot of just full-blown lies. At the end of the day, that doesn’t really fly with me. Go enjoy it. Do whatever. Leave me out of it.”
