Thanos Hires Bullseye for the Strangest Cosmic Mission of His Career

Bullseye will soon handle a unique challenge in Marvel Comics pages. In a new one-shot, Thanos hires the street-level assassin for a job that pits him against three much more powerful opponents.

Bullseye’s Marvel Gold ’76 mission pits him against cosmic heroes

Bullseye will star in Marvel’s upcoming one-shot comic, Gold ’76 #1. It will hit store shelves on September 9, 2026. Pre-orders can be placed at local comic shops.

In the comic, Thanos hires him to kill someone very important to the universe. While hunting his target down in New York City, the Daredevil villain crosses paths with Star-Lord, Nova, and Jack of Hearts, all eager to foil his mission. Since the latter three are cosmic powerhouses frequently clashing with aliens, the skilled marksman finds himself confronting an obstacle vastly outclassing his skill set.

The comic’s release comes as all four characters celebrate their 50th anniversaries in publication history. Notably, all four of them have rarely crossed paths. However, Star-Lord and Nova share a history as Guardians of the Galaxy members.

Bullseye debuted in Marvel Comics in Daredevil #131 from Marv Wolfman and Bob Brown, released in 1976. Meanwhile, Nova, or Richard Rider, first featured in Nova #1 (1976) from Wolfman and John Buscema. Bill Mantlo and Keith Giffen introduced Jack of Hearts, or Jack Hart, in The Deadly Hands of Kung-Fu #22. Lastly, Star-Lord a.k.a Peter Quill made his first appearance in Marvel Preview #4 from Steve Englehart and Steve Gan.

Editor Mark Paniccia has described the character ensemble as “one of the strangest assemblies in comics.” He added, “MARVEL GOLD is about assembling the best talent to celebrate these characters with big swings, great stories, and a fresh spotlight that reminds readers why they’ve endured for decades” (via Laughing Place).

Best-selling writer Stephanie Phillips, who previously worked on Daredevil, wrote the comic. Meanwhile, rising star artist Madibek Musabekov, whose credits include Star Wars: Shadow of Maul, did the illustration.

Further, Leinil Francis Yu provided the main cover art. Hicham Habchi, John Romita Jr., and others designed variant covers.
