    Raven-Symoné has become known to audiences through a variety of outlets, from her work with the Disney Channel to her podcast series. Recently, a clip of her discussing the race of one of her most famous characters has sparked discussion online. Since then, commenters have been discussing the show and even debating the world of child acting.

    Raven-Symoné Became Known For Playing Raven Baxter On That’s So Raven & Raven’s Home

    Raven was introduced to audiences at a young age playing Olivia on The Cosby Show. She later gained further recognition playing the teenage psychic Raven Baxter on the Disney Channel sitcom That’s So Raven., She later reprised the role in the sequel series, Raven’s Home, in which she also served as an executive producer.

    Viewers have also seen Raven in other ventures over the years. From 2015 to 2016, she served as a co-host on The View, having previously appeared on the talk show multiple times as a guest. However, she ultimately left the series to work on Raven’s Home. She and her wife, Miranda Maday, also host a podcast, “Tea Time with Raven & Miranda.”

    Over the past few days, a clip from Raven’s podcast featured Kalen Allen has resurfaced and gone viral on social media. Allen commented that the actress’ character, Raven Baxter, was “Black as f***” as she tried to prevent her visions from coming true.

    Raven pressured him to consider why Allen believed that. As she shared, “Was she Black? Why did she feel Black to you? Take away the color. Make them green, and hear the words. What color are they?”

    Many Fans Highlighted Discussions Of Race On That’s So Raven, While Others Thought The Actress’ Comments Were Taken Out Of Context

    Since the clip went viral, fans have been sharing their reactions to Raven’s comments. As one commenter expressed, “I feel like Raven has some sort of hidden aversion for this show that we don’t know about.”

    For many, a big point of contention was the show focusing on the character’s background. In particular, many fans also discussed the episode, “True Colors,” in which Raven learns from a vision that she was denied a job because of her race and goes undercover to expose it.

    A few also brought up past comments she made on The View. However, other commenters came to her defense, feeling that her comments were being taken out of context. Some comments included:

    • “I get where she’s kind of coming from the show was for everyone. But lack of black representation makes our people over inflate things to fill a void.”
    • “Was there not an episode where she didn’t get hired at a clothing store because she was black?”
    • “She didn’t say it wasn’t for Black ppl. She said it wasn’t a Black show which technically she’s correct. A white actress could have played that role and it would have been cool ..would have been as successful??? Doubt it but it wasn’t necessarily a Black story.”
    • “She has a lot of trauma related to her shows/movies. She’s a child actor so her relationship with her work is complicated.”
    • “We didn’t realize she was a lil off after the Watermelondrea comment?”
    • “This show is a staple to black people seeing a respectable black family on Disney, with an incredible lead, comedy, & life lessons. It even touched on racism.”
    • “She resents being a child star which I don’t blame her for.”
