Street Fighter star Callina Liang has reacted to an old social media post by co-star Eric André about Chun-Li. Liang plays the iconic character in the upcoming live-action adaptation.
In an interview with IGN, Liang was shown a 2010 post that André shared on X, then known as Twitter, in which he wished for Chun-Li to be real. After learning when he had posted it, Liang laughed in surprise and joked that she would confront him about it.
“I’ll probably just go up to him tonight and be like, ‘Hey, I saw your tweet. I’m here. Why didn’t you say anything to me? I’ve been real this whole time,’” Liang said. She added that André never mentioned the tweet during their month-and-a-half shoot in Australia, “Didn’t bring that up once.”
What to know about Callina Liang and Eric André’s Street Fighter roles
Callina Liang will portray Chun-Li, one of the most recognizable fighters in Capcom’s Street Fighter franchise. The character is a skilled martial artist and Interpol officer who debuted in Street Fighter II in 1991. Ming-Na Wen and Kristin Kreuk played the role in previous film adaptations. Eric André will play Don Sauvage, the ring announcer for the CWA in the Street Fighter video games. The character debuted in Street Fighter V in 2016, marking his first live-action appearance in the upcoming film.
Street Fighter features a star-studded ensemble. Noah Centineo and Andrew Koji lead the cast as Ken Masters and Ryu, respectively. Other roles include Don Lee, David Dastmalchian, Jason Momoa, Roman Reigns, Cody Rhodes, and Vidyut Jammwal, among others. Kitao Sakurai directs the feature from a screenplay he co-wrote with T. J. Fixman. Dalan Musson and Gary Dauberman are credited for the story. Jason Momoa also co-produces Street Fighter alongside Mary Parent, Cale Boyter, Takayuki Nakayama, and Stefan Makhoul.
Distributed by Legendary Pictures, the PG-13-rated film opens in theaters on October 16, 2026.
