Brand New Day? Jacob Batalon Has Answered

Jacob Batalon is finally addressing one of Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s biggest ending questions. The actor shared his thoughts after fans started debating whether Ned really remembered Peter Parker.

Jacob Batalon answers if Ned remembers Peter in Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s ending

Spider-Man: Brand New Day ended with one emotional scene between Peter and Ned. Peter introduced himself using his real name once again. The pair then slipped into their familiar secret handshake together. That moment quickly sparked plenty of fan theories online.

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Jacob Batalon admitted the ending remains intentionally unclear. “First and foremost, does Ned actually remember him, though? It seems a little open-ended.”

“What if it’s just muscle memory? What if he just remembers that handshake but nothing else about Peter? What if he just repeats Peter because that’s what Peter says his name is in that moment? I don’t know.”

Batalon also explained that every fan may see the moment differently. “I feel like it’s really up to interpretation for everyone. For me, I think it’s a really cool little nod, so hopefully things happen from there.”

When asked whether Ned’s final “Peter?” hinted that he was starting to remember, Batalon suggested there might be something behind the moment. “Yeah, there could be a slight glint or little glimmer, if you will.”

Although Batalon stopped short of confirming that Ned fully remembers Peter, his comments suggest the ending deliberately leaves the door open for future Spider-Man films to explore their friendship further.

The movie never confirms Ned fully remembers Peter Parker again. Some fans believe it was only muscle memory returning naturally. Others think Doctor Strange’s spell from Spider-Man: No Way Home may finally be weakening.

For now, Marvel has not confirmed that Ned fully remembers Peter. That answer will likely wait until a future Spider-Man movie.
