With Ahsoka Season 2 now on the horizon, questions about the Star Wars series’s future have naturally surfaced. Many are wondering if the sophomore installment will conclude, especially after a rumor seemed to suggest the same. Recently, the showrunner, Dave Filoni, offered an update, providing an answer that left fans hopeful.
Dave Filoni answers if Ahsoka Season 2 is the last one
At the red carpet for Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord, Filoni addressed the rumor suggesting Ahsoka Season 2 would wrap up the series. The Lucasfilm president did not directly confirm anything, offering a cryptic response. While he didn’t specify how it would happen or what would take place, he said he knew how the story progressed and ended. The president’s comments gave fans hope that the upcoming installment may not end the show.
“Never know,” he stated to Screenrant. “You know, everything works, you know, as planned. And I know where the story goes and where it should tie up.” He said that this didn’t currently worry him, remarking, “Fan speculation is always fun.” Filoni added, “It’s always fun to hear what people think.”
He subsequently pointed to Maul and the soon-to-release The Mandalorian and Grogu, jokingly stressing that, like Jedi, fans must focus on the present.
Currently, Ahsoka Season 2 does not have an official release date. However, it is expected to come out this year. Filming reportedly took place between April and October 2025.
The story will pick up from where the previous season left off. At the end of the last season, the titular protagonist, her apprentice Sabine Wren, and the droid Huyang were stranded on Peridea. Meanwhile, Ezra Bridger escaped and reunited with Hera Syndulla.
Last month, Jon Favreau confirmed in an interview with SFX Magazine that Season 4 of The Mandalorian, retooled to the aforementioned The Mandalorian and Grogu, would have set up Ahsoka Season 2’s narrative.
“There were a lot of characters, it assumed you’d watched the whole show,” he shared. “And it was teeing up what was happening moving into [the second season of ] Ahsoka. It was about Grand Admiral Thrawn and following the larger storyline [of this era of the Star Wars timeline]” (via GamesRadar+).
