Steven Spielberg Movie Is Best Enjoyed Knowing This Beforehand

Steven Spielberg‘s upcoming Disclosure Day is out in theaters this week. Before you go and see it, there are a few things you might want to know about the action fantasy movie.

Disclosure Day’s is set for release on June 12, 2026, and it features a massive cast led by Emily Blunt, Josh O’Connor, Colin Firth, Colman Domingo, Eve Hewson, and more. Based on a story by Spielberg, the script for Disclosure Day was written by David Koepp, who previously worked with the Jaws director on films such as Jurassic Park, The Lost World: Jurassic Park, War of the Worlds, and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

What should the Disclosure Day audiences know about the movie beforehand?

Spielberg’s upcoming Disclosure Day is, of course, all about UFOs and aliens. The movie largely revolves around the story of humanity coming to know that aliens exist amongst us, and what that revelation (or disclosure) might do. However, the biggest thing to know about Disclosure Day before going to see it is that the movie is also, and maybe more importantly, about humans.

The movie doesn’t seem to be like the standard action blockbuster that some fans may be hoping to see. Instead, the movie is more introspective, and dives into humanity’s empathy and what would actually happen if something as big as the concept of aliens existing do to us. Spielberg has been no stranger to revealing this, and recently told Entertainment Weekly that the movie, at its core, is about empathy.

“At the core of Disclosure Day is the question: Where has all our empathy gone?” Spielberg said. “Would an actual disclosure day reunite what’s divided, or begin to repair what’s broken in this siphoning away of empathy? And I think that was the personal link for me. There’s more focus in this story on human connection than even the eventual and hopeful connection between an off-world civilization and the human species.”

While there will undoubtedly be some big, action-packed moments in the upcoming movie, it’s important for fans to not expect a ton of ridiculous set pieces. Instead, the movie will have a much more emotional heart to it, and dive into some concepts that Spielberg is no stranger to exploring.
