John Stamos Did Not Want To End His Marriage
When John Stamos finally found love, he never thought it would come crashing down around him. No one ever does, and the hope is that it will last forever. On Full House, Stamos’ character, Uncle Jesse Katsopolis, found happiness with Rebecca Donaldson. They had a fairytale wedding and welcomed twin boys, even living in the family attic. So, when Stamos met model and actress Rebecca Romijn, it seemed that he had found his ‘Aunt Becky.’ The two met in 1994 and quickly began a romance.
Three years later, they were engaged, and the following year, they tied the knot. Sadly, it was not everlasting, and they called it quits in 2004. Both parties moved on with Rebecca marrying Jerry O’Connell in 2007, while John Stamos married Caitlin McHugh in 2018. Although he is immensely happy with Caitlin and they have a beautiful son, Stamos’ first marriage nearly wrecked him. He admitted that it “was shattering to me,” and sent him down the path of alcohol:
“That’s when I really started to kind of drink a lot.”
Moreover, his ex-wife noted that she was “blindsided” by how she came across in Stamos’ memoir, If You Would Have Told Me. Fortunately, he has moved on and is happy that his world came crashing down because he has learned what true love is. However, Stamos admitted that it was not his idea to divorce Rebecca Romijn in the first place:
“She wanted to. It took me a long time to get over it. But I have to say that she has a nice life, she married another guy, she has kids. They’re doing great. I met him recently, which was very interesting.”
Old Feelings Flooding Back?
Although John Stamos claims that he is extremely happy in his marriage of eight years, there is a lingering question. Had Rebecca Romijn not insisted on a divorce, would she and Stamos still be married? Fans and followers who heard the story felt that Stamos ultimately did just fine in the long run:
- Seems like he did ok and Jerry / Rebecca seem happy. Everyone won.
- I’d take John over Jerry every single day.
- She’s cute. I never knew what exactly broke them up but they are happy now with the new people and kids…..
- Yet John got the better end of the deal.
