Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 Is Best Enjoyed Knowing This Beforehand

With Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 arriving this weekend, fans of the first movie and the video game franchise will want to know a few things before stepping into the theater.

Directed by Emma Tammi, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 is the new sequel to the 2023 Five Nights at Freddy’s movie. Both films, which star Josh Hutcherson as Mike Schmidt, are based on the popular video game series that was created by Scott Cawthon.

What should audiences know before seeing Five Nights at Freddy’s 2?

Fans of the first Five Nights at Freddy’s movie should know that, as noted by ComingSoon’s Jonathan Sim in his review, a “good portion” of this new film is jump scares. This shouldn’t come as a huge surprise to fans of the video games, as they largely revolve around jump scares; however, audiences should still be prepared for animatronics to pop out at them unexpectedly.

William Afton star Matthew Lillard also noted this when speaking to ComingSoon in an exclusive interview, as he said, “The reality is that this film has a lot more jump scares. I think that it speaks more to what the game is. And I think that people will really appreciate that. Lillard also teased some “big set pieces” and said that the “animatronics are deeply involved.”

Sim also noted that, similar to the first movie, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 isn’t particularly scary or unsettling, meaning fans should enter the theater looking for a fun experience rather than to see something that’s going to give them nightmares.

Lillard said that he’s not in a lot of Five Nights at Freddy’s 2; however, that’s largely because they have plans for a third movie that, should it wind up getting made, will give him a bigger role as it will feature a final showdown similar to Harry Potter vs. Voldemort or Luke Skywalker vs. Darth Vader. This means that there are more Five Nights at Freddy’s stories to tell after this second movie, and there could be some Easter eggs regarding what’s to come hidden throughout Five Nights at Freddy’s 2.

Universal Pictures and Blumhouse Productions‘ Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 is now playing in United States theaters.
