It surpassed both Zootopia 2, which earned $43 million, and Wicked: For Good, which grossed $16.8 million over the same weekend. The film also earned $46 million internationally, bringing its global opening to $109 million. According to Comscore, the $63 million domestic debut marks the highest-grossing post-Thanksgiving premiere in U.S. box office history (via Deadline).
This opening weekend performance broke multiple records. It marked the biggest opening ever for a post-Thanksgiving theatrical release, surpassing 2003’s The Last Samurai ($24.2 million). It also set the record for the biggest December opening for a horror film, beating 1997’s Scream 2 ($32.9 million). Additionally, it became Universal Pictures’ largest December debut, exceeding 2005’s King Kong ($50.1 million).
Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 was produced on a $36 million budget. Its domestic opening nearly doubled that figure, and the global total tripled it. In comparison, Wicked: For Good had an estimated budget of $150–$163 million. It earned $16.7 million domestically and $30.1 million globally in its third week. Zootopia 2 had a similar budget of $150 million and has reached $916 million globally after two weeks.
Internationally, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 posted strong openings in several markets. Mexico brought in $6.9 million, the second biggest Universal horror opening there. The UK and Ireland contributed $4.4 million, Universal’s highest horror debut in the region. Brazil recorded a $3.2 million launch, making it the studio’s biggest December opening ever in the country.

Domestic revenue from Wicked, Zootopia 2, and Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 since November 21 totaled $600 million, with combined opening weekend earnings at $369 million. The domestic box office is now 1 percent ahead of last year’s totals.
