HBO’s latest fantasy hit, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, is already building momentum for another season, but one major Targaryen character may not return as quickly as fans expected. After making a strong impression in the first season, the future of the said Targaryen now appears uncertain as production moves ahead on the next chapter of Dunk and Egg’s journey.
Finn Bennett doesn’t know about A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms Season 2 return
Finn Bennett recently admitted he has no idea whether Aerion Targaryen will appear again in Season 2. Speaking to ScreenRant during the premiere of A24’s Backrooms, the actor ssaid, “Please! I don’t know. Let’s just wait and see.”
Bennett also praised costars Peter Claffey and Dexter Sol Ansell and said he was proud to be part of the show. “I was so happy with the way that series came out, and I’m so proud to be a part of it. So proud of Peter and Dexter, and I love all of them,” Bennett continued.
Aerion became one of Season 1’s biggest threats and quickly stood out among the Targaryens. However, George R.R. Martin’s original novella The Sworn Sword, which season 2 adapts, does not feature the character. That has made his return difficult to predict. Even so, the HBO series has already made several changes from the books, leaving the door slightly open for a cameo or expanded role.
Series co-creator Ira Parker previously discussed plans that could stretch the show across 12 to 15 seasons if HBO continues supporting the adaptation. Since Dunk and Egg’s story spans many years in Martin’s lore, future seasons could revisit Aerion later, even if he skips the immediate storyline.
Another Targaryen already confirmed to miss Season 2 is Maekar Targaryen. Actor Sam Spruell recently said his character would not appear in the upcoming season, though he also hinted the door remains open long term. Meanwhile, Daeron Targaryen’s status is still unclear. Fans are also waiting to see whether Maester Aemon, known from Game of Thrones, finally appears in the prequel series.
